So you found this website that lets you build your website based on a generic template. It’s great! It allows you to host your website, update your website, and have it look pretty much anyway you want it to look, and when it’s done you sit and wait for the leads and purchases to just roll in. But I’m pretty sure you didn’t get the leads and purchases you were banking on just because you created a website for your business; am I right? The reason? Because that website builder site didn’t provide you with any Search Engine Optimization.

Now you’re probably wondering, “what is this elusive Search Engine Optimization you speak of?” Webopedia defines search engine optimization as “a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine (SERP) — including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.” Simply put, it’s how your consumers will find your website through searches.

There are two rules to having an online presence: 1. You must have a professional website with rich content, and 2. you must include Search Engine Optimization. These two rules are not optional. One cannot exist without the other. Why? Think about this question really hard for a minute… why do you have a website if you don’t want consumers to find you? Now think about this one…why would you want SEO to send consumers to a website that isn’t professional, and the content doesn’t grab your viewers?

The internet has turned into one big flashing billboard, and for small businesses, it has become a race to the finish line, and without SEO, it is impossible for any small business to win the race.
